Atlas Astrology — Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Atlas Astrology LLC, a California limited liability company ("Atlas," "we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Atlas mobile application and related website and services (together, the "Service").
Please read this Policy together with our Terms of Service. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Plain-language summary (not a substitute for the full Policy): Atlas is an astrology app for entertainment and self-reflection. To build your charts we collect your birth date, birth time, and birth place, plus basic account details. We use your own servers and a small number of trusted service providers to run the app. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral ("targeted") advertising. You can delete your account and data at any time from within the app.

2. Scope
This Policy applies to personal information we process through the Atlas iOS app and the Atlas website. It does not apply to third-party products or services we do not control, including Apple's App Store, Sign in with Apple, and App Store billing, which are governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Information you provide
- Account and profile — Name, email address, phone number, gender, and profile photo.
- Birth data (sensitive) — Your date of birth, exact time of birth, and place of birth (city, state, country, precise latitude/longitude, time zone, and elevation).
- Charts you create for other people — Names, birth dates, birth times, birth locations, and any photos you choose to add for friends, family, or others whose charts you build (see Section 3.4).
- Journal entries — Ratings (0–5) and the location/date associated with an entry. Your free-text journal reflections are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to or stored on our servers.
- Purchases — Records of in-app purchases and subscriptions, including Apple transaction identifiers. We never receive or store your full payment-card number — Apple processes all payments.
- Communications — Feature requests, support messages, and other content you send us.
3.2 Information collected automatically
- Device and push — Device type, device identifier, and push-notification token (used to deliver Apple Push Notifications).
- Product analytics — In-app events (e.g., screens viewed, features used) recorded in our own first-party database to understand how the Service is used and to improve it. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs in the iOS app.
- Location — We use the birth and life-event locations you enter. The app does not continuously track your real-time GPS location in the background.
- Website data — If you use our website, we and our hosting/analytics providers may collect standard log data (IP address, browser type, pages viewed). See Section 8 (Cookies).
3.3 Sensitive personal information
Your birth date, birth time, precise birth location, and any profile photographs may be considered sensitive or special-category data under laws such as the GDPR and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). We collect this information only to provide the core astrology features you request (calculating and displaying your charts, transits, astrocartography, and related insights). Where the law requires consent to process sensitive data, you provide that consent by entering the data and using these features, and you may withdraw it at any time by deleting the data or your account.
3.4 Information about other people
If you create a chart for another person, you are providing us with their personal (and possibly sensitive) information. You represent and warrant that you have the right and any necessary permission to provide that information, and you agree to inform those individuals about how their data is used as described in this Policy. If you are not authorized to share someone's birth data, please do not enter it.
4. How we use your information and our legal bases
We use personal information to:
- Provide the Service — create and display your astrological charts and insights, sync your data across your devices, and deliver features you request. *(Legal basis: performance of a contract.)*
- Process purchases and subscriptions — confirm and validate App Store transactions and manage entitlements. *(Legal basis: contract; legal obligation.)*
- Provide sensitive-data features — calculate charts from your birth data. *(Legal basis: your explicit consent.)*
- Send transactional messages — receipts, security and authentication codes, account and service notices, and push notifications. *(Legal basis: contract; legitimate interests.)*
- Send marketing communications — where permitted, news, tips, offers, and product updates. You can opt out at any time (see Section 7 and Section 9). *(Legal basis: your consent and/or legitimate interests, depending on your location.)*
- Improve and secure the Service — first-party analytics, debugging, fraud and abuse prevention, and protecting our users and systems. *(Legal basis: legitimate interests.)*
- Comply with law — respond to legal requests and enforce our Terms. *(Legal basis: legal obligation; legitimate interests.)*
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we balance those interests against your rights and freedoms.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose information only as follows:
- Service providers (sub-processors) who process data on our behalf under contract, including:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (hosting of your account, chart, and analytics data)
- Railway — backend application hosting
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, App Store billing, and Apple Push Notification service
- Resend — sending transactional and marketing emails
- Legal and safety — to comply with applicable law, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Atlas, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
- With your direction — when you choose to share or export your information.

6. We do not sell or "share" your personal information
For purposes of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and similar U.S. state laws, we do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have not done so in the preceding twelve (12) months. If this ever changes, we will update this Policy and provide any opt-out the law requires.
7. Marketing communications
If you receive marketing email from us, every message will include a working unsubscribe link, an accurate "from" line and subject, and our physical mailing address, consistent with the U.S. CAN-SPAM Act. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link or contacting hello@atlasastrology.app. Opting out of marketing does not stop transactional messages (such as receipts or security notices). Where required by law, we obtain your consent before sending marketing messages.
8. Cookies and website analytics
The Atlas iOS app does not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-app tracking SDKs.
Our website currently uses only strictly necessary cookies for basic functionality; we do not run third-party advertising or analytics cookies on it. If we enable website analytics in the future, we will update this Policy and provide a cookie-consent mechanism for EEA/UK visitors. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
9. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights:
For everyone (and for residents of California, Colorado, Virginia, Connecticut, Utah, and other U.S. states with privacy laws):
- Know / Access — request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we hold about you.
- Delete — request deletion of your personal information.
- Correct — request correction of inaccurate information.
- Opt out of sale or sharing for targeted advertising (note: we do not sell or share, so there is nothing to opt out of).
- Limit use of sensitive personal information — we already limit use of sensitive data to providing the Service.
- Non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
For residents of the EEA, UK, and similar jurisdictions (GDPR / UK GDPR):
- Access, rectification, erasure ("right to be forgotten"), restriction of processing, data portability, objection to processing, and the right to withdraw consent at any time.
- The right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
How to exercise your rights:
- Delete your account and associated data directly in the app (Settings → account deletion), which removes your profile, charts, journals, and related records from our systems.
- Or contact us at hello@atlasastrology.app. We will verify your request and respond within the time required by applicable law (generally 30–45 days). You may use an authorized agent where the law permits.
10. International data transfers
We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where we transfer personal information out of the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum) or another lawful transfer mechanism.
11. Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterward only as required to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a commercially reasonable period, except where retention is legally required (for example, purchase and tax records). Feature requests you submit may be retained in de-identified form after account deletion.
12. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including access controls and database row-level security. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials and device secure.
13. Children's privacy
The Service is intended for users age 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and if we learn that we have, we will delete it. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Service only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly direct marketing to anyone under 16 in jurisdictions that require parental consent for such users, and we will obtain that consent where required by law. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided us information may contact hello@atlasastrology.app.

15. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide additional notice (such as in-app or email notice) where required. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
